Panchakarma in Ayurveda

Ayurveda is the Science of Life. Thus the aim of Ayurveda is not just treatment of diseased people but also it concentrate on Prevention aspect. For the fulfillment of this aim there is mention of 8 parts of Ayurveda (Ashtanga Ayurveda) those are Kaya chikitsa, Kaumarabhrtya, , Graha Chikitsa, Shalakya tantra, Shalya tantra, Damshtra Chikitsa, Jara Chikitsa and Vrisha Chikitsa. Chikitsa (Treatment) in Ayurveda is divided into 2 i.e. Shamana Chikitsa (Palliative Treatment) and Shodhana Chikitsa (Biopurification Therapy). Panchakarma is essential part of Shodhana Chikitsa. Panchakarma is made of 2 words, i.e. Pancha (five) + Karma (therapy). The 5 therapy are Vamana Karma (Emesis therapy), Virechana Karma (Purgative Therapy), Basti Karma (Administration of medicine through Rectal route), Nasya Karma ( Administration of medicine through Nasal Route) and Rakta Mokshana (Blood letting therapy). There 5 therapy is are not just used for diseased person but also to maintain the health of healthy individual.
