Comparative Analysis of Existing Health Information Systems for the Development of Nigerian Health Sector

Ayangbekun Oluwafemi J, Oke Ameenah E

This research focuses on highlighting the problems that are associated with the absence of reliable and balanced information about the performance of an healthcare system and seeks to bridge the gap between the kind of services patients are currently receiving and what kinds of services they ought to be receiving. It emphasizes the problems that are being caused by the lack of proper and standardized Health Information Systems in the Nigerian health sector. The aid of questionnaires and interviews were then employed in seeking and gathering information about already existing health systems. Opinions were sought so that the research will be of immediate and tremendous advantage to the health sector by working with infrastructure that are already in place and needed to be improved upon. The analysis was carried out between two existing Health Information Systems, NHMIS (National Health management Information System) and OpenEMR (Open Electronic Medical Records) respectively, both of which were chosen based on their availability in the health sector at present and the opinions that were received through the administering of questionnaires and conducting of interviews.
